GOVERNOR'S MANSION CABIN - ESTES PARK (June 6, 2008)

Out second cabin trip of 2009 was to the Governor's Mansion cabin in Estes Park. As you can see, it is a quite luxurious cabin. We had plenty of room to stretch out!

OK, so this is not the Governor's Mansion cabin. It is actually the Morraine Park Museum in Rocky Mountain National Park.

This is the Governor's Mansion cabin in Estes Park. It is an 8-person, 4 bed, 2 bath cabin just minutes from the entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park. We paid $222 per night, plus $15 per night to bring Carly along. In the background you see Melea monitoring the kids in the hot tub.

Triple R Cottages owns and operates several cabin units in Estes Park.

The cabin complex had cabins of all sizes and amenities available for rent. During our stay there was never more than two cabins occupied (including ours).

The inside of Governor's Mansion is much more cabin-like than the outside. Here is the Great Room. And there is Carly staring at Melea acting like she is starving.

Very nice kitchen with everything you need.

The master bedroom has a king bed! The sign on the wall says, "Friends Always Welcome...Relatives by Appointment Only." Ha! The beds in this cabin are very comfortable. Should be for $222 per night!

There is one other bedroom with a queen bed. Kendal slept here since it has a door. Kendal tends to sleep in much later than everyone else.

The other two "bedrooms" are actually futons in the Great Room. Cameron and Courtney took these. There is Melea kissing Cameron good night.

Both full bathrooms had heated tile floors. The showers were OK...little low on pressure for my taste.

Friday night dinner. Guess what? Spaghetti!

Lea relaxes on the couch with a glass of wine.

Cameron and Courtney could not wait to sit in the outdoor hot tub. Cameron thinks he is a playa.

The kids played cards at the kitchen table.

We visited RMNP all day Saturday. Here we are on a hike.

Cool bridge encountered while hiking.

Goofy kiddos while hiking.

Some long-time residents of RMNP.

Beautiful scenery. We are lucky to have such a great national park in Colorado.

We took the family cruiser on Trail Ridge Road. We stopped along the way when the views were good.

Trail Ridge Road...on our way to over 12,000 feet in elevation.

The temperature dropped into the 30's as we approached 11,000 feet.

Snow in June! One mountain in RMNP is named "Never Summer."

Plenty of vermin live at high elevation.

The higher we drove, the colder we got.

We eventually made it to the Visitor Center / Store / Cafe located just past the highest point on Trail Ridge Road.

Plenty of un-melted snow at 12,000 feet.

Back at our cabin, Lea rested with Carly on the couch while Dad played Contract Bridge with the kids.

Sleepy (and obviously comfy) Carly.
