PIKE NATIONAL FOREST - KELSEY (June 23, 2007)

We returned to Kelsey for a third time in four years. Instead of reserving site 15, we chose 13 this time thinking it would be a little easier to get into. Well, it wasn't. Just was much leveling was required here as in our usual site 15. We did enjoy the great backyard  this site offered along with easy access to the climbing rocks.

We put our screen room up even though Kelsey is not very buggy.

This picture shows the leveling that is necessary on site 13. It took 3 1/2 boards on the right side and 8 boards on the hitch. I had to use rocks for the front stabilizer pads since I only had two boards left.

A new tradition of ours is Randy cooks breakfast on the first morning. This time Randy made fried potato and bacon skillets with warmed tortillas.

Kelsey is a fairly low-elevation campground at 8100 feet, so if we visit between late June through August, the weather is warm. As you can see, all the other husbands in the campground wanted to be me.

A 1-minute hike from site 13 are some cool rock formations. The kids set up their "houses" here. Kendal's friend Kaitlyn (far right) joined us on this trip. Since our camper has a separate 4-bunk room, it works out fine to bring a extra person.

Big tree around the rocks.

The kids, being the budding engineers that they are, constructed a stable bridge between the rocks.

The usual Monopoly game took place on this camping trip. Kaitlyn made a very cool three-way trade that netted her the properties she wanted, but in the end, Kendal was a victorious landlord by constructing a an entire side of the board with hotels named, "Death By Kendal."

Cameron practices throwing and jumping at the same time.

Dad shows Cameron how to stand after pitching a "Karate Kid Slider."

Melea made a fire that had the neighbor kids telling their Dad to make their fire bigger.

I don't know what they were doing here, but I took the picture anyway.

Brats and taters and green beans!

Tofu and taters and green beans! Hmmm...that doesn't sound right for some reason.

The sky was crystal clear on Saturday evening, so the threat of rain was nil. We took advantage by making s'mores after dinner.

When Carly learned that she was not going to get a s'more, she needed to be consoled by Melea. It was a great trip to Kelsey, just like all the others before.
