MUELLER STATE PARK (Memorial Day Weekend 2008)

We visited Mueller State Park for Memorial Day Weekend 2008. We stayed from Friday to Monday in the legendary site 123. Besides the on and off wind, Mueller was wonderful as usual. It did not rain until 11 PM on Sunday night, so the weather was super.

While hiking the Grouse Mountain loop, we were passed by two mountain bikers.

The higher elevations sill have plenty of snow. Even Mueller has some snow remaining in some shady areas.

The Aspens do not have their leaves yet..

A small lake encountered on a hike.

Back in the day, somebody owned a pretty sweet cabin with a great view.

Here are the kids and Carly playing on the rocks in site 123.

The secret Indian campsite near 123 has been modified to include some shelter. Do you see our three Indians in there?

Saturday evening we had an awesome dinner that included filet mignon, green beans, mashed sweet potatoes, and leftover pasta (from Friday's spaghetti dinner).

We ran into Outbacker Colorado Chip and his family. Chip's camper is an Outback 26 KBRS (king bed rear slide). It is the same floor plan as our 26 RS except the KBRS is 18" longer and has a king-sized bed (now that would be nice).

Courtney plays with Evelyn while Kendal and Melea hold Mitchell.

Evelyn was excited for Courtney to come over on Sunday night to have dinner and play with her.

Our kids showed Evelyn how to make Pinecone People.

For the Sunday evening dinner with Colorado Chip and his family, I grilled BBQ chicken breasts and wings. Chip cooked Halibut that his buddy caught fresh in Alaska.

Outbackers take over the dump station. We visited with another Outbacker family that arrived at the dump station right behind Colorado Chip.

When traveling through Colorado Springs, we usually stop at Fargo's Pizza for lunch. That is our Outback in the foreground with Colorado Chip in the background.

CAMP NAKED !

Something happened to me (Randy) on this trip that was truly bizarre. While existing the camper to go to the camper services building to take a shower, the lady next door in site 124 ran up me buck naked and started hugging me and grabbing on to me. Cameron was on his way to the truck when she ran right by him! When she got to me, she would not let go and kept saying something like "I want to stay" and "Let me stay." When her husband saw her, he ran over and said she was drunk. When I finally got her to let go of me, her husband carried her back to their campsite and they started yelling at each other. Melea called the Park Rangers, and not long after that we had four Teller County Sheriff vehicles parked in front of site 124. They ended up taking her to detox and reluctantly let the husband stay at the campsite with their two kids for the night. The next day, the lady was back at the campsite as if nothing happened.
