ROOSEVELT NATIONAL FOREST - PAWNEE (July 4, 2006) |
|
|
For the July 4
Holiday we visited Pawnee campground. It is a Roosevelt National
Forest campground situated between Nederland and Estes Park. We were
in site 50. Only even numbered sites are reservable. After our
usual campground inspection, the best sites are 16, 22, and 30.

Pawnee is next to
Brainard Lake. We did not bring our Porta-Bote along on this trip but
we should have. There are also great hikes that start on the other
side of the lake.

|
Kendal was in
England with her maternal Grandparents during this trip, so we had just
Cameron and Courtney. It wasn't any quieter with just two kiddos.

|
Not sure why the
kids posed like this, but we took this picture on one of our hikes.

|
This trail started
near the Camp Dick campground. We let Carly off her leash for a while on
this hike and while she did run ahead a lot, she always came back when we
called her (and then she ran ahead again).

Back at the Pawnee
campground, some sites had snow. It wasn't cold out, yet there was
snow. Pawnee is is at 10,300 feet in elevation.
|
|
|
We usually find
great photo opportunities on our hikes.

|
Trees growing in
the middle of the river. I hope they get enough water.

|
Some other campers
started a July 4 Parade around the campground. Cameron and Courtney
grabbed some streamers and led the pack.

|
We spent one day in
Estes Park doing some shopping. We had a super time at Pawnee and will
be back.
