STEAMBOAT LAKE STATE PARK (September 11, 2005)

For our first camping trip ever without the kiddos, we accompanied our Outbacker neighbors to one of their favorite campgrounds, Steamboat Lake State Park.  The park is about 26 miles from Steamboat Springs, CO, or 4 hours towing from our home.  We were in site 104, which was not lakeside, but still very nice.

There is a trail that goes around the lake from the visitor center to the marina.  From this trail I was able to snap another shot of site 104 and our Outback.  If we return, site 110 is the one to get.  Aside from that, any of the lakeside sites are nice.

We rented a Pontoon Boat with our neighbors and another couple that was tent camping with them.  We spent two hours cruising the lake, and even lit the onboard BBQ for lunchtime grilling.

On Sunday we completed a "mostly uphill" three-hour hike that took us to the upper falls of Fish Creek Falls.

Carly loves to jump in the water any chance she gets to cool off.  How would you like to hike up a mountain on a warm, late-Summer day wearing your winter coat?

Steamboat Lake State Park is near Hahn's Peak.  There are trails that take you to the top of this baby if you are up for it.  The summit is under 11,000 feet, so no biggie, right?

More of Steamboat Lake during our hike around it.

Our trip to Steamboat Lake was relaxing and quiet (no kiddos).  But we still missed them.
