TRINIDAD LAKE STATE PARK (September 4, 2005)

For Labor Day weekend 2005 we visited Trinidad Lake State Park.  The park is a three-hour haul from Castle Rock.  We were in site 30, which was wide and perfectly level.  We had no neighbors on either side of us until the second night.  The best sites at the park are 48 and 50 since they overlook the lake.

I took this photo on a hike we took around the lake.  You are looking directly into New Mexico from this vantage point.

We ventured to the south shore of the lake for a quick swim.  The sun-lit plateau in the background is where the campground is.

Where there is mud, there will be kids.  Here are mine up to their waste in the nasty stuff.

Cameron works on the lost art of mud-making.

Kendal works on her mud sculpture as Carly checks the shore for half-eaten, buried delicacies.

Speaking of delicacies, we dined Saturday night on spinach and asiago cheese chicken brats.  And if you have a really discriminating taste, bacon-wrapped hotdogs are a delight.

After a light rain sprinkle in the park, this beautiful rainbow appeared.  It was so large that I could not capture the entire rainbow in one photo.  The picture hardly does it justice...it was surreal.
