YOGI BEAR'S JELLYSTONE PARK (June 20, 2004)

For Father's Day Weekend 2004 we hit Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park.  It is located West of Canon City on US 50 near the Royal Gorge.  We arrived on a rainy and cool Friday night, but Saturday and Sunday were sunny and warm!

We reserved campsite #24 several weeks ago.  Here is a map of the park.

We picked campsite #24 partly due to the big fenced-in play area.  There were no other sites that had so much room!  We set up a Badminton game and the kids from the nearby campsites came running over.  Kendal, Cameron, and Courtney all made new friends.  Kendal even exchanged mailing addresses with a new friend from Illinois.

The kids asked about 100 times to rent a 4-person pedal cart during our stay.  And at only $10 for 30 minutes, how could we resist (right!)?  Randy's sole purpose here was to act as a human motor.

While camping at Yogi's, we went to Buckskin Joe's.  It is an authentic old western town with lots of fun things to do.  It so happened that Buckskin Joe's was hosting Civil War Days while we were there.

One of the Confederate soldiers shows the girls how to ready a cannon.  I am pretty sure you don't sit on the cannon while firing it, Courtney!

Cameron and Kendal were drafted into the Confederate Army.  They learned how to handle their firearm and how to respond to several commands from the Infantry leader.

Kendal and Cameron stood right next to the soldiers when they fired the guns.  Look at the smoke!  And while everyone else is firing their weapon into the air, Cameron has his aimed right at the camera.

Mom and the kids tried their skills at panning for gold.

Courtney was worried that someone really was buried here!

This was a funny headstone that Cameron found.  It says, "Here lies Russ.  RIP.  Anything to get out of work, huh Russ?

Yogi's Campground had nightly tractor-pulled rides around the park.  Cameron and Courtney led the singing of several songs, including "I Don't Want to be a Duck So I Shake My Butt."

We also took a narrow gauge train ride to get a view of the Royal Gorge.  Very cool!
